Oh, Look. Another ‘Self-Awareness’ Journal.
Alright, break's over, listen up. A new story is making the rounds about a fitness journal meant to help you "walk toward their purpose." Let me just say, if your life's purpose is hiding at the end of a 1-mile walk, you need bigger goals. The book in question is from Pamiya Opoku, founder of "The Walking Hour," and it's called-get this-“Good. Better. Becoming. 21 Day Walking Journey - a Guided Journal for Self-Awareness, Healing, and Alignment.” Honestly, the title is longer than the walk most of you are willing to take. You could've walked a city block in the time it took you to read that out loud. 🙄
Is This Really a Revelation?
Let me get this straight. In the year of our lord 2026, we are being sold a book that reveals the profound secret that… walking is good for you? Incredible. I'm shocked. Someone call the papers. Oh wait, the Evanston RoundTable already did. According to them, this guided journal is a tool for anyone "starting a walking practice." A tool? My dude, the tools are your legs. You were born with them. You don't need a book to learn how to "weave it into" your life; you just need to put one foot in front of the other and walk out your front door. It’s not rocket science.
This whole thing started after Opoku was let go from a corporate job. And hey, I'm not knocking the hustle. But let's be real about this quote from her: “I had the space and affordability to focus on purpose.” Must be nice. Most people who lose their jobs don’t get a magical “space and affordability” to go on a sabbatical for self-discovery and write a feel-good book. They get stress, overdue bills, and the desperate need for another soul-crushing job, STAT. So while I’m sure her story "resonates with people," let's not pretend this is some universally relatable origin story. The rest of us have to find our "purpose" between spreadsheets, errands, and wondering what the hell to make for dinner.
